Welcome to the online folios of the Australian Photographic Society.
The online folios are web based groups that members can join, where images are shared, and comments and constructive suggestions given by folio members.
Online folio participants must be financial members of The Australian Photographic Society (APS).
Those wanting to join should fill in the online form to register for a folio. An email will be sent to the member informing them of the process for accessing the web folios. For the sake of manageability, the number of participants in each folio will be limited. Applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis and applicants may be placed on a waiting list once the maximum number of participants is reached.
There are a variety of folios to choose from - we currently have Open, Nature, Street Photography, Monochrome, Architecture, and Photo Travel.
Rules
General
- The online folios have monthly rounds, in which each member is expected to upload one image.
- Rounds will remain open for comments for one month after the close of uploading. Each folio member is expected to comment on all images for the round, with the exception of their own. The folios assist learning when everyone shares insight - giving comment and constructive criticism on others images.
- Please keep comments on topic and constructive.
- In addition to your regular upload for each round, you may upload one follow-up image, which could be a modified version of your original submission. You should mention in the description that it is a follow-up.
- For the Nature online folio, all images must abide by the Nature Definition, and the Nature Code of Conduct.
- Folio users who are inactive will be removed. Participants who expect to be absent for an extended period should advise the relevant Folio Convenor, seeking leave of absence.
Copyright
The general principles of Australian copyright legislation should be followed for all images displayed in the web folios. You must be the copyright holder (as well as being the photographer) of any images you submit to the folio. Members must not copy other participant’s folio images, for experimenting or any other reason. No folio should be used to promote or encourage the practice of copying another photographer’s image. Discussion can be made, however, on ways of changing an image without physically copying it.
Use of folio images other than for personal viewing and review on the website are not allowed. Submitting or publishing images with any components of images created by others is not permitted. Copying of images in the online folios is not allowed for any purpose other than the official APS archives. Archives may be used for the APS Galleries, and for promotion of the Society and its Groups. Images used for these purposes will be displayed unaltered and authorship will always be acknowledged. By participating in any APS folio you will be taken to have agreed to these terms of use.
Code of Ethics
Members should use their discretion about the subject matter of images. Please see the APS Code of Conduct and Ethics Statement for more detail.
