The quality of the sound tape must be adequate and the applicant must show an understanding of the importance of the dissolve technique, namely that the blending of one slide with another requires careful thought and colour selection. Any subject matter is acceptable but it is not sufficient to show a series of unrelated slides with a pleasant musical background. Each audiovisual must consist of a clear beginning, middle section and conclusion.

AV-AAPS – Associate of APS

REQUIREMENTS: The applicant must:

- must be an APS Member, with a joining date prior to the closing date for applications.

- submit four separate audiovisuals with a total running time of more than 16 and less than 40 minutes.

Evidence must be provided of the ability to unite recorded sound with sequences of linked visual images to provide a programme for educational, artistic, entertainment or commercial purposes.

The assessment will be made on the basis of the photographic quality of the visual material, the continuity and aptness of the sound accompaniment, and the quality of the sound reproduction.

AV-FAPS – Fellow of APS

REQUIREMENTS: The applicant must:

- have been a financial member of APS continuously for a period of at least the one year immediately prior to the closing date for applications.

VISUAL MATERIAL: The original material used in an application must be still photographs, although the final presentation must use digital images

SOUND: The sound recording may be in mono, stereo or multi-track sound.

REQUIREMENTS: The applicant must be able to demonstrate their overall ability in audiovisual production and in colour and monochrome media. Each submission is to consist of a Main Folio of four audiovisuals (Colour or Mono), with two AVs from the other medium as the Supporting Folio

APS recognises that few photographers achieve the same standard in both colour and black and white media so the supporting folio will not be accorded the same critical evaluation as the main folio. As a guide, the quality of the supporting folio needs to be of an international standard.
