Digital Group

Not a member of digital group?

No problem, you can join at any time by contacting the The Secretary or by ringing 02 9890 9795 Tuesday through Thursday. Our wonderful staff will be pleased to assist.

The 500+ members of Digital Group are united by an interest in digital photography, the manipulation of images with software and image sharing online. Beyond that, our photographic interests are diverse.

The APS has charged Digital Group with the responsibility of looking into continuing developments related to photography and to investigate new ways in which these developments can be used for the benefit of division members and the APS generally.

As a result, many activities have been created for member engagement, including the following.

  • Participation in the Australian Digital Photography Awards (ADPA) and the APS National Digital Exhibitions.
  • Participation in the twice yearly "Seasonal Competitions".
  • Access to the following Folios: The Image Coaching Room, Open, Monochrome, Photoart, Landscape and Thinking Beyond the Box.
  • The opportunity to display work in our Critique Room Gallery and the Mobile Phone Gallery.
  • The opportunity to contribute written articles and photographs to the Group newsletter “Monitor”.
  • The APSCON Social Dinner is a creation of Digital Group for the benefit of all conventioneers. We also arrange for TV screens to show the work of the group.

“Monitor”, our electronic newsletter, is the primary means of communicating with members. If you have not seen Monitor or if you want to look at past issues, they are available via this link. All members are invited to contribute articles, so let your creative juices flow!

Would you like to see your work alongside that of other members? There are several options. To participate in one or more Folios please e-mail Jenni Horsnell Alternatively just upload pictures to either the Critique Room Gallery or the Mobile Phone Gallery and make comments. If you want to test your pictures in a competitive environment then the Summer and Winter Seasonal Competitions are for you. And remember, the Seasonal Competitions have cash prizes. At the top level you can also enter ADPA and the APS National Digital Exhibitions where you can earn points for Honours.

I hope that you enjoy your membership of the Group. The more you engage the more rewarding it will be. If you have any questions please contact Dennis.

Digital Group Award

2016 Digital Division Award Citation for
Ronald Cameron Jackson EFIAP FAPS

At the APSCON Awards Dinner this year Ron Jackson received the Digital Division Award. The citation read as follows.

In addition to his many contributions to Digital Division, Ron Jackson has actively given his time and skills to the APS in a number of roles.

He joined the APS in 1994 and after a period of time became active as a member of the Exhibitions Sub-Committee, a position he held for more than 10 years.

At about the same time, and building on his experience as a South Australian Photographic Society accredited judge, he became an Honours Verifying Officer, a position held for almost 11 years.

His practical ability as a photographer has been recognised via the exhibition system with the honours of FAPS in 2000 and EFIAP in 2013.

His contributions relating to digital photography include his work as a judge and audio visual presentations to clubs.

In 2011 Ron was appointed to the APS Periodical Sub-Committee which was responsible for the production of two issues of the “Gallery” coffee table book in 2011 and 2012.

In 2006 he was elected as a Councillor of Digital Division, a position held for four terms or eight years. During that time his special responsibility was that of Exhibition Director for ADPA and the APS National Digital Exhibition. He performed those duties for five years.

In all these positions Ron has performed in an exemplary manner. His depth of knowledge, dedication to the tasks and quiet reliability have been greatly appreciated by those who have worked with him. Ironically, because of his modest demeanour, many members may not be fully aware of the significant contribution he has made to Digital Division and the APS more generally.

It is for these reason that I have no hesitation in nominating Ron Jackson for the Digital Division Award for 2016 for contributions to excellence in digital photography.
