At this point in time, much effort is being expended to introduce a user friendly interface on our website which will change the way that the office interacts with the membership in the coming years. Ever since computers have been used to process data in our office, a number of software programs have been use to receive, record and save information when a person pays a subscription or purchases a product or service. Most times, multiple entries had to be made by the office staff so that recognition of that transaction could be recorded where required and produce the financial record as well. Not one of the programs spoke to the other so that if a change had to made, then each individual entry had to be made for each individual change in a number of places. This used precious resources that could be better channelled into areas that require personal attention.
Soon, all transactions will require only one entry and the various connections in other files will be made automatically. Online, a member will be able to update personal information at any time using his/her user name and password. Our treasurer will be able to have live time information on the financial situation with a complete record of the incoming and outgoings to be able to constantly monitor the state of the Society.
For those who do not have an internet connection or for some reason do not wish to do the transactions online, then the office will still be available to update their records by post etc. in the normal way. Members are encouraged to use the online facility.
Since office time will be saved, it is hoped to save money by means of the outlay and keep the inevitable subscription increase to a minimum.
As you receive this edition of IMAGE, APSCON 2010 in Roma Queensland will not be too far away. I hope to see as many members as possible take a pleasant visit to Roma and after or before the Convention to visit the Carnarvon National Park - it is a photographer’s paradise.
Finally, I hope that you all have a fulfilling photographic life.
