As soon as start gaining National or International acceptances you need to start recording the results into files. As you receive a report from an exhibition, list them into your files. Even better start using the format that will be on the forms that you use for your applications. There is no reason not to have the forms early, they may change but those changes will not be so different. Chronological order will be important.

List all your acceptances and then later you can extract the ones that you need, e.g. four for most applications.

  • Try to avoid culling acceptances with awards, especially on images that only have 1 award.
  • Make sure that you retain at least 2 acceptances per image where possible.
  • Try not to cull images that only have single acceptances. You may gain another acceptance, making it a multiple acceptance at a later date.
  • There are no ‘prizes’ or special treatment for image that have multiple acceptances. These can be the first you target if you need to cull acceptances back to the maximum of 4 in an exhibition. Make sure you retain at least two of the acceptances per image on your list, and awards if applicable.

A spreadsheet is a good way to list results, as it can be sorted in different ways.

If you do not use a spreadsheet, keep a separate list organised by title.

Plan ahead with your lists.

FIAP do not recognise images when judged by the panel not being located in the same room at the same time. All images must be either printed or projected.

FIAP count circuits as one exhibition regardless of the number of judgings.

Go and see exhibitions where possible. This will give you a good feel fro the standard and presentation required to gain acceptances. It can also be inspirational to see the work of other photographers.
