The Australian Photographic Society can provide the following with your membership:
Folios
Folios are communities of photographers (members) that critique each others work. Some vote within each round. It aims to help you in your photography and provide you confidence to show your work.
There are online folios as well as postal folios. You need to be a member of a Division to participate. Online Folios are monthly or weekly.
Divisions
The APS currently operates seven Divisions for members to join. The Divisions are Print, Projected Images, Nature, Contemporary, Audio-Visual, Digital and Youth. Most provide a range of services to assist their members.
Magazines
The APS provides magazines published by Yaffa Publishing at a 40% discount for members – Digital Photography + Design, Capture and Photo Imaging & News. Please see here for more details.
Your own Online Image Gallery
The APS now provides the opportunity for all members to have their own Image Gallery online. This service is provided for an initial setup fee of $15 and a further $25 fee per annum (initially at a pro rata basis to meet your annual fee).
Youth Folio
The APS has instigated running a Youth Folio through the online web folios. If you have a young person in your house that you would like to share a joint membership with, the younger member receives one division free up to the age of 19 and also the opportunity to participate in the Youth Folio for free.
Alternatively, a good Xmas/Birthday present is a Youth membership for $82.00 (the chosen division for youth memberships are free).
Forum
There is an online forum available for members. Are you visiting it? Ask your questions there or post some discussion. There is even a section for Image Critiques. You can upload an image and ask someone to comment on it. This forum is only open to APS members. You will need to register to use it and have your account activated by the APS Office.
Competitions/Exhibitions
You can find more information about National and International competitions in the bi-monthly IMAGE magazine, APS website or Australian Photography magazine's APS page. There are also a variety of other competitions running throughout the year. If you are in a Division you can compete in a Divisional competition that shows the winners at the APS annual conference, APSCON. There is an annual Trans Tasman Competition, between New Zealand and Australia. There are the annual Australian Digital Photography Awards. Also, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia compete in the annual Four Nations digital competition.
Honours
Achieving your Honours with the APS and FIAP (Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique) can be extremely rewarding both photographically and personally.
APSCON
A fabulous convention held once a year with International Presenters. A week of photographic presentations, workshops and social experiences. Not to be missed!
