Barb Butler AAPS

During the ‘80’s I planned on potting during my later years and into retirement.  However, I found I could no longer handle the heavy clays and I swapped that for handling a camera – and the cameras and associated goodies kept on getting heavier!

I first joined a camera club in 1991 and photography has been an absorbing interest ever since.  My chief interest has always been the natural world and I am fascinated by the patterns found in nature and the way they connect with one another.  I started cutting my photographs and piecing them together in different ways to make a new montaged scene.  I also enjoyed making and presenting a series of images.  Over the years this has gradually progressed to my current interest in making audio visual sequences.  I’ve had a little success in Nationals with my still images, and am now having some success with my AVs.  At the recent International AV Festival in Adelaide I was delighted to be awarded my first International acceptance and Top Australian entry.

The piecing together of images, sound and stories really challenges me and although I still regard myself as a beginner, I am now doing things I could never have imagined just five years ago.  Things such as learning about VGA and DVI connectors (!), mixing sound and making voiceovers – and standing on stage to address a couple of hundred people – this journey is quite amazing.  There are many more stories to tell – now I just need to learn more about storyboarding …
