Marketing & Sponsorship Subcommittee Chairman

A quick overview of the management structure of the Australian Photographic Society

The Management Team is a two tiered system of governance.

The Management Committee (MC) comprises 7 individuals with voting rights. All members of this MC team are encouraged to participate in full discussion in the general meetings.

The MC comprises of an Executive Committee - President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President and Immediate Past President. The other 3 positions are General Members. It is anticipated the General Members will have a portfolio.

The Society has 6 Divisions - Audio Visual, Contemporary, Digital, Nature and Youth. Each Division Chairman has automatic placement as an ED. The MC may constitute subcommittees at any time and may, at their discretion, give the Chairman of the Subcommittee a place on the ED.

Position of the Marketing and Sponsorship Chairman

This position will be responsible as Chair of the Marketing and Sponsorship Subcommittee. It may be an MC or ED portfolio, at the discretion of the Management Committee.

The Marketing and Sponsorship Chairman plans and directs marketing and fundraising activities by performing the following duties personally, with the subcommittee members and from time to time other appropriately skilled and interested members.

Primarily the applicant will need to:

  • Uphold the Constitution of the Society.
  • Strive to continually improve the organisation's policy, activities and administration.
  • Represent the Society to the outside world.
  • Sound out suitable persons as to their willingness to stand for office or other capacities.

The applicant will be expected to (most of these taks will be undertaken in conjunction with the Marketing and Sponsorship Subcommittee):

 

  • Cooperate with the Management Team, Business Manager and Treasurer to establish the required strategic business plan and budget to achieve the organisations constitutional requirements.
  • Develop and implement the marketing plan and strategies, both short and long range, to support promotional and financial objectives of organisation.
  • In cooperation with the Treasurer, develop and manage the marketing operating budget.
  • Plan and oversee advertising and promotion activities including print, online, electronic media, and direct mail.
  • Identify, plan and coordinate sponsorship activities in collaboration with the Business Manager.
  • Serve as liaison with outside agencies on ongoing promotional and sponsorship campaigns.
  • Oversee the development and production of promotional and collateral materials.
  • Assist in development of membership offerings and pricing strategies to produce the highest possible long-term membership retention.
  • Ensure effective control of marketing results, and take corrective action to guarantee that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated budgets.
  • Oversee and evaluate market research and adjust marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
  • Monitor competitive products and marketing activities.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of member and prospective member database.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with current and potential industry and key community and strategic partners.
  • Conduct marketing surveys on current and new membership offerings, and provides feedback for future product development/service.
  • Guides preparation of marketing activity reports and presents to the Management Team.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent corporate image throughout all services, promotional materials, and events.
  • Chair the Subcommittee of varying size depending on project requirements for the Marketing & Sponsorship Sub Committee. Facilitates responsibilities in accordance with the Society’s policies and constitution. Responsibilities include working with the relevant committee members to plan, implement and review all APS marketing and sponsorship activity.
  • Be prepared to be considered as a member of the Management Team, therefore it will be expected for the applicant to participate in general meetings.
  • Have computer and internet access and be prepared to use it for communication between the Management Team (both email and web).
