The Society rewards its members who achieve excellence in photography. Members achieve different levels because of their motivation, exemplary service, desire to reach a goal, improve self esteem, recognition of their skill, artistry and ability. Recognition to APS members is given for skill in the form of Youth Licentiate (YLAPS), Licentiate (LAPS), Associate (AAPS), Fellow (FAPS), Masters (MAPS) and for the Certificate of Achievement (APS–CA) ratings. With the exception of the Certificate of Achievement, the above honours can be obtained in two different ways: by the accumulation of points based on the applicant's success in national or international exhibitions, or by the submission of a specified number of images for evaluation by a panel of senior Society members who hold high skill honours. Certificates of Achievement can be obtained only by exhibition success. For details of the Exhibition and Panel systems go to this page.
APS also administers and accept submissions for FIAP Distinctions.
