what we do ... divisions ...
audio-visual

The Audio Visual Division welcomes all members interested in the art of audio-visual making.  It is a challenge to combine images, sound and narrative and achieve a production which will absorb the viewer and elicit an emotional response, but it is fun trying. On this website there are links to newsletters, past and current, which in turn have links to helpful sites.

With the arrival of digital AV (made on a computer with either images from a digital camera or from scanned slides) the medium has become more accessible and popular.  I have found the best way to learn what makes a good AV is to watch what others have made.  Take every opportunity to do this e.g. by attending APSCON or the conventions in your own state.  There are also sites on the web where you can view the work of others, although these are usually .exe files which can only be accessed by PC users.  If you would like to know more contact the APS Secretary who will put you in touch with the Division Chair, Barb Butler. Information on how to make an AV can also be downloaded from here courtesy of Peter Manchester.

Assistance and advice can be given on equipment and software to use according to your budget and anticipated type of production. Producing an AV does take a while to make, but when you have done your first one you can have it evaluated with some constructive and positive advice.

Go to this link to download the AV Division newslettter. You will also find copies of past newsletters “What's the Drum?” which have useful information, especially for beginners.

Members of AV Division have the opportunity to enter their work into two national competitions each year, and every second year the International AVFest is held in Adelaide.   In 2008, for the first time, it will be possible for workers who make their AVs on a Macintosh to enter these national competitions, and show it along with the work of PC users.

At this stage AV Division does not organize folios, but if the need is there to share AVs in a non-competitive way this can be arranged.  So if AVs are your interest we’d love to hear from you.

Results for the AV Division 2008 Autumn National are here.
